A two-alarm fire on the roof of Hulen Mall in Fort Worth prompted a full evacuation Friday evening, with one person hospitalized.
Firefighters responded to the scene just after 7:15 p.m., encountering heavy smoke on the second floor near Macy’s and Red Robin. The blaze, confined to the roof, was extinguished by approximately 8:10 p.m. One individual was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, though their condition remains unknown.
The Fort Worth Fire Department clarified that initial reports of explosions or a roof collapse were inaccurate, attributing the confusion to shattering skylights. A third alarm was briefly called but quickly canceled. Crews remained on-site to ventilate smoke from the building.
Investigators noted that roof maintenance had occurred earlier that day, but they have not confirmed a connection to the fire’s cause, which remains under investigation.
The mall sustained water damage to several stores, and while Macy’s and Dillard’s have reopened, the wing near Red Robin remains closed for repairs.
