The City of Fort Worth is preparing for a major celebration of New Year’s Eve at Sundance Square that is projected to attract roughly 40,000 people.
Downtown Fort Worth Inc. describes the New Year’s Eve event at Sundance Square as the “Largest In-Person 2025 New Year’s Eve Celebration in Texas!”
This event is expected to attract of crowd of 40,000-50,000 people and will feature a countdown to midnight and a massive fireworks show, which will be launched from four buildings around the Square.
There will also be food trucks and live bands spread throughout the area to celebrate the holiday, along with a variety of other entertainers that will include jugglers, stilt walkers, trick ropers, aerialists, mimes, and disco ball dancers.
The event is completely free and Gregory Newman, the director of music at Sundance Square, said those who go to the show should keep their expectations even higher than last year.
“It’s going to be massive in Downtown. It’s going to be bigger than last year, I can promise you that much. It’s going to be absolutely awe-inspiring,” he said, according to Fox 4 KDFW. “This an amazing place where you can come downtown with your whole family, not many cities have something like this.”
The record number of people expected to attend the celebration has prompted the city to increase the number of downtown patrols. Brad Perez of the Fort Worth Police Department said that everyone should “find someone who you can kiss at midnight rather than shooting your guns in the air.”
“If you’re going to partake in drinking that evening, please plan ahead. Please, please, delegate or find someone or a way home, a safe way at home so that you’re not drinking and driving because we will be out in full force for that also,” he added, per WFAA.
Street closures for this event began Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. and are expected to continue at various times throughout the day, with Main Street, 3rd Street, and 4th Street each being closed. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. on January 31 and ends at 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
