Firefighters rushed to a predawn explosion Monday that leveled a home and ignited two neighboring houses in The Colony.

The Colony Fire Department dispatched crews at 12:50 a.m. to the 4600 block of Freeman Drive after reports of a blast. Upon arrival, they found a one-story brick house fully engulfed, with flames spreading to structures on both sides.

A three-alarm response pulled in help from multiple agencies to battle the fire and shield nearby homes from heat exposure. Crews conducted search-and-rescue while dousing the flames.

By 3:30 a.m., firefighters had contained the blaze and cleared the scene. No injuries were reported.

Fox 4 KDFW footage showed the original home reduced to rubble, with visible roof and front damage to an adjacent property. Firefighters were still tackling lingering fire in that home’s roof and chimney by 7 a.m.

The Denton County Arson Task Force is probing the explosion’s cause.
