Monday in the metroplex will be a hot one, with temperatures in the low 100s, but a forecast for rain suggests lower temperatures later in the week.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for between noon and 8 p.m. Temperatures are forecast to reach 101 degrees, with a heat index of up to 106.

NWS reminds residents to take extra precautions over the next few days, as high temperatures and humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances,” the NWS warns.

Tuesday and Wednesday will also be hot and clear, with temperatures again forecast to reach about 101 alongside a heat index ranging between 105 and 107.

Overnight lows for Monday and Tuesday will hover around 80 degrees.

On Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, a cold front will begin making its way into North Texas, bringing the possibility of rain and lower temperatures. Highs for the remainder of the week will be in the lower 90s, with a chance for scattered showers each day. The greatest chance for rain will be on Thursday and again on Sunday, with 50% coverage estimated in the metroplex.

Overnight lows for the second half of the week will be in the mid-70s.
