San Antonio-based grocery chain H-E-B continues its expansion into the metroplex with plans to open a new location.

In March, some Texas Republicans denounced the CEO of the giant grocery store chain for funneling millions into supporting candidates who are against school choice. Resolutions at the Republican state convention slammed H-E-B CEO Charles Butt for wielding his estimated worth of $7.6 billion to support political action committees looking to subvert several GOP aims, such as instituting school choice practices and preventing children from exposure to LGBTQ content.

Unfortunately, it’s not the only time in recent history that the retailer has been criticized for its political stances. Last year, H-E-B sponsored a block party hosted by an LGBTQ+ pride group that advertised activities for kids. The Texas grocery store chain also reportedly pressurized a venue to cancel a Kyle Rittenhouse speaking event that it was meant to host.

As of April, H-E-B had five stores in the metroplex. San Antonio Express-News reports on the plans for the newest metroplex store in Irving. Here’s the start of the story:

H-E-B this week said it’s poised to continue its rapid North Texas expansion with its first Dallas County location, in the Las Colinas neighborhood of Irving.

H-E-B’s first venture into North Texas began in 2022, when it arrived in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with its Frisco location. Now, the San Antonio-based grocer has six stores in the region, with four more locations on the way.

The grocer’s newest planned location, in Irving, is scheduled to open in late 2026 at Interstate 635 and Olympus Boulevard in front of what used to be a Fry’s electronic store.

In addition to creating around 700 jobs in the area, the release says, this new store location will provide the residents of Irving, Coppell, Grapevine and West Dallas with more convenient shopping opportunities.
