“Our thoughts are with Mr. Marical’s family during this difficult time,” the Garland Police Department posted

Marical was born in Terrell and often went by the nickname “Bubba,” according to his obituary. Marical was a “passionate fisherman” who also loved music. He is survived by his wife and children, and was a “proud grandfather.”

“Charles was a vibrant spirit who brought joy to everyone he encountered,” the obituary reads.

DART has faced recent criticism for a lack of safety measures, as The Dallas Express has extensively reported.

Recently, a suspect stabbed and killed a man on July 30, then escaped on DART before police found him 12 miles away. The same day, a DART train caught fire, sending six passengers to the hospital.

DART Representative Jeamy Molina previously told The Dallas Express the agency works to “ensure our system is safe,” emphasizing the agency’s number of police, security, and fare enforcement officers. However, City Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn said DART is withholding National Incident-Based Reporting System crime and safety data.
