A private contractor died Tuesday afternoon following a water main that ruptured and flooded an access well in Frisco, Texas.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:21 p.m. at the intersection of Eldorado Parkway and Independence Parkway, according to a Frisco Police Department news release.
Two contractors were working inside a safety box when the water line ruptured, flooding the access well. One worker escaped, but the other was found deceased.
Frisco Police and Fire Departments responded to what they initially classified as a water rescue. The construction crew was performing maintenance on a main water line when the catastrophic failure occurred.
OSHA and relevant safety authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident. The victim’s identity has not been released out of respect for the family.
City officials clarified that the construction project was private and not related to any City of Frisco projects.
The Frisco Police Public Information Office said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The intersection where the accident occurred is a major thoroughfare in the rapidly developing city.
