Frisco Boosts Sustainability With World Cup Tree Planting At Sports Venues

Frisco Plants 20 Trees For World Cup 2026 | City of Frisco TX - City Hall May 30, 2026 posted/Facebook

The City of Frisco and community partners, including FC Dallas, recently hosted a tree-planting event to support local sustainability efforts in preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Volunteers joined crews from Play Frisco Parks & Recreation and Environmental Services to plant 20 pond cypress trees at the Toyota Soccer Center and FC Dallas training grounds. Organizers described the trees as a lasting legacy for the city, known as Sports City USA.

The initiative aligns with broader regional efforts by the North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee to advance sustainability across host communities. Similar tree-planting events have taken place in Dallas and Arlington in recent months.

Event Details and Partnerships

The City of Frisco announced the planting via its official X account on June 3, 2026. The post highlighted collaboration with FC Dallas, Fannin Tree Farm, the North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee, and Better Impact.

Pond cypress trees were selected for the project because they are well-suited to the North Texas climate and provide long-term environmental benefits, including improved air quality, shade, and carbon sequestration, in high-traffic sports areas.

Frisco has hosted sustainability initiatives, including volunteer programs through its Environmental Services department and habitat-restoration partnerships. The city maintains programs such as Teens4Green for youth environmental projects and has participated in regional tree-planting initiatives tied to community events.

The North Texas FWC Organizing Committee has coordinated multiple tree-planting events across the region as part of its legacy planning for the 2026 tournament, which will feature matches in the Dallas area and team base camps in Frisco. FC Dallas Stadium (Toyota Stadium) serves as a training site for the Sweden Men’s National Team, as reported by The Dallas Express.

Impact and Scope

Specific costs for the Frisco planting of 20 trees were not detailed in public announcements.

Frisco officials position the effort as part of ongoing environmental stewardship in a rapidly growing city. The planted trees will provide a visible reminder of the city’s role in the global event while contributing to local green infrastructure near major sports venues that will see increased use during the tournament.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will run from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Frisco is preparing with additional community programming, including a free 34-day FC Dallas Soccer Celebration at Simpson Plaza featuring live match viewings, vendors, and family activities.
