A series of tragic crashes in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex over the weekend left two pedestrians dead and two others critically injured, including a beloved local comedian killed in a hit-and-run near downtown Dallas.

Henry Cruz, a 29-year-old comedian, died early Saturday morning while walking home with friends after a performance. Noah Robertson, owner of Shark’s Comedy Club in downtown Dallas, remembered Cruz as a rising talent in the local comedy scene.

“The really cool thing was we got to see Henry blossom into a really good comedian,” Robertson said, per NBC 5 DFW. “Henry was awesome, he was very funny, he was a very genuine guy. He loved making people laugh. He was just a really nice, good person, and sometimes that’s hard to come by these days; everybody loved him.”

Robertson, who booked Cruz about three years ago and became his friend, expressed his grief: “I had no idea that walking with Henry that night that I would never get to see him again, you know. You’ve got to let people know that you care about them and love them because you don’t know when you’re going to get that chance again.”
