A new spinoff from the popular television series Yellowstone is set to be filmed right here in North Texas.

The city of Ferris, around 20 miles south of Dallas, is set to become the filming location for the new Paramount show called Rio Palo.

“This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris,” Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams said in a news release from the City of Ferris, per Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. Ferris bricks are in streets, schools, and courthouses across this country. But that is just part of who we are. Ferris has never settled for being one thing,” Williams said.

“We are proud of what this means for Ferris and proud to show others what we already know. We are just getting started.”

This would not be the first time one of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoffs has shot in North Texas.

Last year, The Dallas Express reported that the series known as The Madison was filming in downtown Dallas, with the city being used as a stand-in for New York City. At the time, the showrunners were seeking out locals to be used as extras in the show featuring Michelle Pfeiffer.

Rio Palo, translated as “Stick River,” is the fifth spinoff from Yellowstone. In addition to The Madison, there have been 1883, 1923, Y: Marshals (coming in 2026), and 1944 (ordered to series).

Two other shows could also be headed our way. One, a spinoff that focuses on popular Yellowstone characters Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton, is rumored to be on the horizon, as well as 6666, a series that would be filmed at the Four Sixes Ranch owned by Sheridan in Guthrie, Texas, west of Dallas.

Taylor Sherridan has been a strong proponent of filming his popular shows in Texas and the need for state incentives. As previously reported in The Dallas Express, Sheridan said that without state support, none of his series would have been filmed in the Lone Star State.
