FedEx will eliminate more than 850 jobs at a North Texas facility early next year as the company shutters one of its major logistics operations in Coppell.
FedEx Supply Chain Logistics & Electronics, Inc. said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter that 856 employees at its facility in the 800 block of West Sandy Lake Road will lose their jobs in phases starting in January.
The notice was published on November 25 in the Texas WARN database.
The letter stated that the shutdown was driven “solely by our customer’s decision to transition its business to a new location that will be managed by a new third-party logistics provider.”
FedEx told state officials the Coppell operation will permanently discontinue, with a complete closure expected by April 29, 2026.
The first round of 62 layoffs will occur on January 16, with additional phases continuing through April, WFAA reported. FedEx reportedly stated that all impacted employees “will be paid wages and benefits through their last day of employment” and that retirement and group insurance benefits will be handled under existing plans.
The company also reportedly indicated that its agents were sharing “information to affected employees about other FedEx openings, including at other nearby FedEx facilities.”
A separate report said the WARN letter, sent by regional human resources manager Joel Frierson, was also provided to Coppell’s mayor and the Dallas County judge, according to the Houston Chronicle.
FedEx strategic communications advisor Adam Snyder told that outlet, “Team members at this facility were notified in advance and some will be eligible for other roles within the company, including at other FedEx facilities in the area.”
The Coppell layoffs follow several waves of job reductions across North Texas over the past year.
In May, FedEx Supply Chain Logistics & Electronics laid off 305 workers at a Fort Worth facility after, according to a local report, a move to a new location overseen by another logistics provider. Additional layoffs affecting 131 workers at the Garland and Plano facilities were reported in June.
The new WARN filing comes amid broader reductions in the shipping and logistics sector.
United Parcel Service (UPS) WARN filings indicated the company would cut 62 jobs at its Dallas facility as part of what the company calls the largest network reconfiguration in its history, The Dallas Express reported in August.
