Multiple North Texas fire departments responded to a blaze on Christmas Eve that damaged dozens of vehicles.

Denton County Emergency Services District 1 reported that emergency crews were dispatched to a reported grass fire at the 3700 block of McPherson Road at 1:32 a.m. on December 24. Before arriving at the scene, firefighters spotted a “large column of smoke and flames” emanating from the site, according to a social media post.

Firefighters noted multiple vehicles at a vehicle auction facility were involved in the fire. As such, fire departments from Fort Worth, Justin, Haslet, Roanoke, Flower Mound, and Denton were called to assist. Additionally, All American Towing & Recovery was instrumental in helping, creating a “fire break” along the parked cars by moving other vehicles with front loaders.

A little more than 90 minutes later, at 3:09 a.m., firefighters managed to subdue the flames and extinguish the fire.

The fire impacted a total of 58 vehicles. Photos taken at the scene show firefighters battling the flames as well as the charred remains of several cars.

Denton County Fire Marshal’s Office has declared the incident an accident. Footage obtained by the office had shown the fire starting near the battery of one of the vehicles as the wind pushed the blaze onto nearby cars, according to WFAA.

“It is important that these wrecked vehicles have the battery disconnected and/or removed before storing,” advised Denton County Fire Marshal Brad Sebastian, per WFAA.
