First responders have discovered a body in Lewisville Lake.
“The caller advised that an individual attempting to retrieve a lost item had not resurfaced after making multiple trips under the water,” reads a press release from the City Of The Colony.
The Colony Fire Department and The Colony Police Department responded to Hidden Cove Park and Marina on May 16, according to the release. They arrived at the park, off Hackberry Creek Park Road in The Colony, at 2:30 p.m.
The Colony Police Sgt. James Barfield told The Dallas Express that the victim had been there the weekend before, and dropped something off the dock.
“They had come back to retrieve it, and so he was diving down trying to find whatever it was that they dropped during that and unfortunately drowned during the process,” Barfield said.
A dive team from the Lewisville Fire Department found the body close to 4:30 p.m. The Denton County Sheriff’s Office, the Frisco Fire Department, the Lewisville Fire Department, and Texas game wardens responded.
According to the release, Texas game wardens took the lead on the investigation. Barfield confirmed that game wardens responded and said he was told they would take over the investigation.
Maggie Berger, public information officer for Texas Parks and Wildlife, told The Dallas Express that since “Texas Game Wardens aren’t leading this investigation, we’re not able to answer your question.” She confirmed that game wardens are not investigating the death and said the extent of their involvement was to complete a water fatality report.
“In a case like this, there’s no indications of foul play; there were witnesses present that saw what happened, so there’s not a lot of investigation to be done unless the autopsy showed something abnormal,” Barfield said.
The Dallas Express also contacted The Colony Fire Department but did not hear back in time for publication.
