Membership-only retail chain BJ’s Wholesale Club is coming to Texas, with the first locations to open here in Dallas-Fort Worth.
DFW is expected to see at least four locations. While there was some indication last year that bulk grocers could be setting up shop in North Texas, new state filings are starting to present a clearer picture of what will come.
Forney, Fort Worth, Waxahachie, and Grand Prairie are all expected to welcome a BJ’s Wholesale Club location. The stores will be roughly 107,000 square feet and operate similarly to Costco. Expect bulk groceries, furniture, personal care items, home goods, and electronics.
Each store is forecast to cost $9.5 million and is planned for the following addresses, which are subject to change.
Fort Worth
- Address: 5901 Altamesa Blvd., along Chisholm Trail Parkway.
- Target Completion Date: February 2026.
Waxahachie
- Address: Highway 77 and Hedgewood Drive.
- Target Completion Date: January 2026.
Grand Prairie
- Address: SWC Robinson and Mayfield Road.
- Target Completion Date: January 2026.
Forney
- Address: Route 80 and Gateway Boulevard within the Villages at Gateway Development.
- Target Completion Date: January 2026.
The bulk grocer was also reportedly looking to open a location in Allen. However, the Allen Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-1 in December against amending regulations in the district where the project was planned.
BJ’s trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BJ. Over the past year, the grocer’s share price has skyrocketed, appreciating over 57%.
For comparison, Costco returned nearly 47% during that time, while the broad market represented by the S&P 500 enjoyed a much more modest, though still impressive, 21%+ return.
BJ’s is headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and according to its website, it “pioneered the warehouse club model in New England in 1984. ” The chain now operates 250 clubs and 187 gas stations and boasts 7.5 million members.
