Tarrant County voters will have the opportunity to vote on the key roles of sheriff and tax assessor-collector in 2024.

Sheriff Bill Waybourn, a Republican, plans to seek re-election in the coming year, though he is not running unopposed. In the primary election in March, two Democrats, Patrick Moses and Indya Murray, will duke it out to represent their party in November.

Tarrant County’s incumbent tax assessor-collector, Wendy Burgess, will face competition in the Republican primary election. Rick Barnes, who has previously served as chairman of the Tarrant County Republican Party, has entered his name for the primary. K.C. Chowdhury is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket.

U.S. Census Bureau shows that Tarrant County’s population has grown by about 2% from April 2020 to July 2022. Fort Worth is likely to surpass Austin’s population in the coming years as people continue to move to the city, making the sheriff and tax assessor-collector roles all the more critical in these foundational years.

The following candidates have been approved by the Texas Secretary of State to appear on the ballot for the Democratic party for the primary election on March 5. Early voting is set to kick off on February 20.

Candidates are listed in alphabetical order by last name where applicable.
