Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has been awarded $11 million in federal grant funding to renovate restrooms.

“Our airports are a key driver of economic growth in Dallas and across Texas, and that’s why I was proud to champion the Bipartisan Infrastructure law,” U.S. Rep. Colin Allred said in a news release. “I am proud that this bipartisan law continues to deliver and create jobs, and I will keep working to ensure that Texas gets the investment in infrastructure we need.”

Allred is a member of the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

The funding for DFW is part of the $970 million the Federal Aviation Administration awarded through the Bipartisan Investing in America program to 114 airports across the country. Twenty of DFW Airport’s 34 existing restroom facilities will be reconstructed and modernized.

“DFW Airport is undertaking a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program that will bring new terminal spaces, improved roads, and many other enhancements to our facilities in the coming years,” CEO Sean Donohue said in the release. “Part of this work includes an ongoing program to enhance and update many of DFW’s public restrooms, which are being delivered using innovative, off-site modular construction methods that save costs, time, and reduce impacts to our customers. We are grateful to the federal government for supporting DFW projects with grant funds that directly enhance the customer experience.”

According to The Dallas Morning News, the upgrades at DFW Airport include improving accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, improving nursing and mothers’ rooms, and enhancing water conservation with automatic shutoffs and touchless fixtures.

“Under this administration, we are doing more to improve the travel experience than ever before, from expanding consumer protections to modernizing the physical infrastructure,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a news release. “These investments we’re announcing today, made possible by President Biden’s historic infrastructure package, will make it easier for passengers to get to and through airports, create jobs, and increase safety for all.”

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Valley International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Skylark Field Airport, Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, Midland International Air and Space Port, Kelley Field Airport, and San Antonio International Airport received the remainder of the $91.5 million grant funding allocated to airports in Texas.
