A DFW Airport police sergeant died Tuesday after suffering a medical emergency while on duty, officials announced.
Sgt. Charles “Alan” Works, who joined the airport’s police force in 2020, collapsed during his shift at the international hub. The veteran officer’s death marks a significant loss for the department where he’d risen to sergeant in 2022.
“Sergeant Works was a committed public servant and a trusted leader within our department,” said DFW Airport Police Chief Brian Redburn, Fox 4 KDFW reported. “He served with integrity and humility and cared deeply about the people around him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fellow officers as we grieve his loss.”
Works brought extensive law enforcement experience to DFW Airport. He began his career as a detention officer with the Denton County Sheriff’s Office in 2007.
The officer later served with the Tarrant County College Police Department from 2013 to 2022 before joining airport security.
Officials have not disclosed the specific nature of Works’ medical emergency. The sergeant is survived by his immediate and extended family.
The department has not yet released details about memorial services or honors for the fallen officer.
