DFW Airport opened new Terminal A entrances on Friday, offering relief to holiday travelers navigating the airport’s massive construction project.

The early opening comes as welcome news for passengers who’ve endured months of confusing detours and traffic jams. The new access points represent a critical milestone in DFW’s $12 billion capital improvement plan rebuild, which has created headaches for travelers throughout 2025.

The new entrances will simplify access from both the north and south entrances.

Southbound travelers coming from Grapevine will use a new right-hand exit to reach terminals A and B. Terminal B users will exit directly into the terminal, but Terminal A users will bypass that exit and follow the roadway as it makes a U-turn to head back in a northerly direction, merging with northbound traffic to reach Terminal A.

Those traveling northbound, arriving from the Irving entrance, will have direct access via a right-hand exit.

“The new northbound access into Terminal A will be opened in its final condition; however, the southbound access will open in a temporary but near-complete condition. The southbound access will be finished in January following the peak travel period,” DFW noted in a press release.

The current temporary detours have frustrated passengers for months. Many have missed flights or faced long delays while navigating construction zones.

The problems peaked during Thanksgiving travel when gridlock at toll entrances forced some passengers to abandon their vehicles. Travelers walked with luggage in hand through bumper-to-bumper traffic to make their flights.

Friday’s opening addresses the most pressing access issues at Terminal A. New signage will guide drivers through the improved routes, eliminating the confusion that has plagued the airport for months.

But the construction headaches aren’t over yet. Terminal C access work begins in January, with completion expected by summer.

The massive rebuild project will continue through at least 2026. Airport officials promise each phase will improve traffic flow, though travelers should expect ongoing disruptions.

For now, Terminal A passengers can celebrate one less obstacle during their holiday journeys.
