Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is offering free rides to voters on election day.

There are 14 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution on the ballot. Early voting began on October 23 and will last until November 3, as previously covered by The Dallas Express.

General election day will be held on November 7, and it is on this day that voters will be able to take free rides from DART to polling locations.

“Voters can ride at no charge on all DART buses, trains, GoLink, the Dallas Streetcar, Paratransit Services, and the TRE between EBJ Union Station and CentrePort/DFW Airport Station,” according to a DART news release.

“Voting is a fundamental right of every citizen, but far too often, difficulty getting to a voting location can be a deterrent for voters,” said DART president and CEO Nadine Lee. “We are proud to have the opportunity to provide this free service on election day.”

In order to secure a free ride, customers must show a valid voter registration card. Riders who use GoLink can use the promo code “VOTE117” to get a complimentary Adult Local Day Pass for November 7. More information can be found here.

As previously covered by The Dallas Express, the Dallas City Council has been pursuing another initiative to provide free ridership to certain Dallasites through DART.

The DART Ridership Pilot Program aims to offer free rides to students from grades 6 to 12. However, some Dallas city officials are concerned DART leadership is not fully cooperating.

The City has allocated $250,000 toward the pilot, which will launch in January and will “provide 1,302 middle school and high school students with City-funded DART ridership.” The pilot program will run until the end of the 2024 spring semester.

Currently, students in grades K-12 can use their student IDs to pay half-price on DART fares and can obtain a half-price pass at DART headquarters. Children under age 5 can ride DART for free when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
