Coppell’s MacArthur Boulevard will see shifting traffic patterns in the coming months as work on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s (DART) Silver Line project advances.

Three phases of construction have been outlined by DART for MacArthur Boulevard near the rail crossing at East Belt Line Road. Local motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes in relation to the forecast lane closures.

  • Phase 1 began on July 5 and will be in effect until August 14. It involves the closure of the inside northbound and southbound lanes of MacArthur Boulevard.
  • Phase 2 is slated to begin on August 15 and will continue until September 14. Construction work will shut down the outside northbound and southbound lanes.
  • Phase 3 involves a full closure of South MacArthur Boulevard from September 15 to September 20.

DART’s Silver Line project will offer 26 miles of service between Grapevine, Coppell, Dallas, Carrollton, Addison, Richardson, and Plano when it opens in 2026.

As previously reported in The Dallas Express, the leadership at DART and Dallas City Council have long been at odds over sales tax revenues, planning, and delays.

In terms of the Silver Line project, DART CEO Nadine Lee said at a council meeting in March that the City’s delays and late-stage requests had cost the organization tens of millions of dollars.

Yet local residents have raised concerns about the Silver Line project, with some citing alleged financial mismanagement by DART leadership, a lack of transparency, and the disruptive impact construction has had on area traffic.

In Coppell, the recently announced road closures are not the first the city has seen. From February to June, Mockingbird Lane and South Belt Line Road saw multiple closures and detours as DART crews were working on the Silver Line.

The construction in Coppell will also erect a new Silver Line station in the Cypress Waters area, according to Community Impact.

A mixed-use development spanning 2.5 million square feet, Cypress Waters features 4.5 million square feet of office and retail space as well as 10,000 multifamily residences.
