The City of Dallas finished in the top 10 most populous cities in America for 2023.
According to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Dallas was the ninth most populous city in the country for 2023.
The city’s population increased from 1.29 million in 2022 to 1.3 million in 2023.
Dallas County has lost more than 53,000 residents over the last two years, according to census data, as previously covered by The Dallas Express. In 2022, 18,985 residents left the county, while 34,330 residents left in 2023. Some claim the population decrease is a result of Dallas’ high crime rates and homelessness, as reported by The Dallas Express.
Beating Dallas was Houston, which came in fourth place with a total population of 2,314,157, and San Antonio, which came in seventh place with a total population of 1,495,295.
Fort Worth, which saw major growth, ranked 12th, with a population of 978,468 residents, a 2.2% increase from 2022, adding 21,365 people or roughly 59 people per day. Texas had eight cities finish among the top 15 fastest-growing cities.
Fort Worth also finished second among the 15 cities with the largest numeric increases between July 1, 2022, and July 1, 2023, just behind San Antonio, which finished first. Texas had seven cities finish among the top 15.
“The population growth across the South in 2023 was driven by significant numeric and percentage gains among its cities,” said Crystal Delbé, a statistician in the Census Bureau’s Population Division, in a press release. “Thirteen of the 15 fastest-growing cities were in the South, with eight in Texas alone.”
“Fort Worth is the fastest-growing city, by percentage, in the nation among those with over 50,000 inhabitants. This translates to an average daily influx of approximately 59 people,” the City of Fort Worth said in a news release.
“This surge underscores the tremendous opportunities and potential that Fort Worth offers, and we are dedicated to harnessing this momentum to build a brighter future for generations to come,” said Mayor Mattie Parker. “While we celebrate our city’s growth, we remain committed to ensuring that Fort Worth remains a vibrant, safe, clean, and prosperous community for all its residents.”
