Construction is underway on new quality-of-life enhancements on Lemmon Avenue near Dallas Love Field.

Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL) on Monday kicked off construction on a comprehensive project intended to spruce up the area by creating a safer, more functional, aesthetically pleasing environment.

Changes will include the installation of new sidewalks, bicycle paths, landscaping, gateway features, lighting, intersection safety improvements, traffic signals, wayfinding signage, neighborhood pocket parks, and more, according to the project’s description.

“The improvements are intended to provide a more walkable neighborhood and improve pedestrian circulation and safety through enhanced pathways and bike connectivity,” according to the description.

The construction area will encompass the Lemmon Avenue area of Dallas from Collville Avenue to Shorecrest Drive and Shorecrest Drive from Lemmon Avenue to Webb Chapel Extension.

Once construction wraps up in early 2025, the upgrades should enhance the overall experience for travelers and residents, ensuring that the area along Lemmon Avenue remains a welcoming and accessible destination.

“We are thrilled to see these improvements coming to Lemmon Avenue,” said Patrick Carreno, director of aviation at DAL. “This project underscores our dedication to the community and our ongoing efforts to create a more enjoyable and safer environment for everyone.”

Although Carreno is enthusiastic about the project, he anticipates temporary traffic disruptions and detours near Lemmon Avenue while construction is underway. He also expects minor traffic delays to occur on Collville Avenue, Shorecrest Drive, and the Webb Chapel Extension.

“We appreciate the public’s patience during the construction phase, and we are confident that the result will be well worth the wait,” Carreno said.

During construction, DAL encourages local residents, travelers, and businesses to stay updated about the project and any potential traffic advisories through the airport’s official website and social media channels.

RoeschCo Construction is the general contractor for the project. The Frisco-based firm has been awarded $30 million to carry out construction on the project.
