The City of Fort Worth has announced which offices and departments will be closed for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The city announced on Tuesday that most offices, including city hall and departments such as the Environmental Collection Center along with the city’s four drop-off stations, will be closed on January 15.
Athletic and community centers around the city will also be closed.
“On January 15, all community centers, Haws Athletic Center, FW@6 programs, Log Cabin Village, and the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge will be closed. The water features at the Water Gardens will be turned off,” reads the city’s announcement. “All municipal golf courses will be closed on Martin Luther King Day.”
Other city locations that will be closed for the holiday include all Fort Worth Public Library locations, both Hulen and Alliance PetSmart Adoption Centers, North Animal Campus, and Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center.
However, garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulk collection schedules will not be affected.
Trinity Metro will be operating on an amended schedule with all of its administrative offices closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Only TEXRail, TRE, TRE Link, and CentrePort Circulator will operate on normal schedules, with all others operating on Sunday/holiday schedules, according to an alert issued on January 1.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day was made a federal holiday in 1983. It is observed each year on the third Monday in January. This year, the third Monday in January coincides with King’s birthday, January 15.
City offices and departments are expected to reopen with regular schedules on the following day, January 16.
