The National Weather Service has forecast a chance of isolated showers and storms passing through the DFW area on Friday.

A few thunderstorms in the Panhandle area northwest of the metroplex were spotted on radar in the morning hours, tracking toward the southeast.

While these storms did not produce any severe conditions, a few were described as strong and generated small hail, winds, and frequent lightning.

“We’re also watching a cluster of thunderstorms that’s up in the Oklahoma area that’s going to be moving toward the Red River throughout the day,” Monique Sellers with the NWS in Fort Worth told The Dallas Express.

“We may see that cross over into our area this afternoon, into the evening.”

Highs on Friday are anticipated to reach only into the low- to mid-90s. However, the break in sweltering temperatures delivered by the rain will be short-lived — the heat will return on Saturday, forecast to reach 99 degrees.

“Looks like our temperatures are really going to get pretty warm as we head mainly into Saturday or Sunday on into next week,” said Sellers. “We’re looking at triple-digit heat, and heat indices are still going to be in that Heat Advisory to potentially even Excessive Heat Warning criteria.”

The NWS’s forecast for the first three days of next week is “Hot! Hot! Hot!” according to its Twitter posting. NWS says high temperatures will be in the 102-105 range beginning Sunday, with heat indices in the 110-114 range each day next week.

AccuWeather has forecast temperatures in the triple digits every day next week in the DFW area.

North Texans are advised to stay weather aware as conditions evolve.
