Houston restaurant concept Clutch City Cluckers plans to open its first North Texas store in Frisco this year.

According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, renovations on the 1,225-square-foot space at 15801 Rolater Rd. will finish in April. The estimated cost of the alterations is $100,000.

Most of the company’s nine restaurants are in the Houston area. Its name was inspired by the city’s back-to-back NBA championships in the mid-1990s following Hall-of-Famer Michael Jordan’s first retirement, and its logo is also a nod to NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Clutch City Cluckers was founded by Ahmad Kilani, a Jordanian who came to the United States in 2015 to continue his education.

“While attending school as a full-time student, Kilani also worked at Houston’s first Halal food truck,” according to the company’s website. “It is here that Kilani began to shape his vision and career in the food industry.”

“Kilani is now using his experience and knowledge of the food industry to bring Nashville’s Hot Chicken to Texas with Clutch City Cluckers. The food truck was part of Kilani’s mission to give back to Houston, the city which he states gave his career a major boost,” reads the website.

The Clutch City Cluckers menu features several sandwiches, including Cluck It Like It’s Hot, Juicy Cluckin Lucy, The Possible, and Toasted Juicy Lucy. Items popular among chicken lovers include cheesy fries and tender baskets, as well as shrimp baskets, tender platters, and wing meals.

Other menu offerings include Cluck It Waffle, Cluck it like it’s Hot Family, Flamin Waffle, Cluckers Salad, Flower Power Tacos, and Shrimp Daddy Tacos.
