Two seats on Tarrant County Commissioners Court are set to appear on the primary and general election ballots in 2024.

In Precinct 1, roughly the southwest quadrant and a central swath of the county, Roy Charles Brooks is not seeking re-election. Four Democratic candidates will duke it out in the primary election in March, while Michael Barber is the sole Republican throwing his name in for consideration for the office.

Gary Fickes will also not seek re-election for his seat as county commissioner for Precinct 3, which covers primarily the northeast quadrant of Tarrant County. One Republican and one Democratic candidate, Matt Krause and Laura Leeman respectively, will appear on the ballot for voters’ to pick from in 2024.

As established in the State Constitution, Tarrant County has four county commissioners and a county judge. The members are elected every four years and guide critical matters at a county-level, including setting the county tax rate; overseeing construction and maintenance of county roads and bridges; adopting the budget; appointing boards and commissions; approving grants and personnel actions; and overseeing the administration of the county government.

The following candidates have been approved by the Texas Secretary of State to appear on the ballot for the Republican and Democratic parties for the primary election on March 5. Early voting is set to kick off on February 20.
