California restaurant franchise Dave’s Hot Chicken expects to open another North Texas location in Lewisville this year.

The company operates eight restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to its website. In addition to the Lewisville store, the website lists another location in McKinney at 4040 W University Dr. as “coming soon.”

According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, Dave’s Hot Chicken will open in the fall following a 2,123-square-foot finish-out of a space at 724 W. Main St. The estimated construction cost of that project is $350,000.

The menu offers chicken tenders, sliders, fries, cheese fries, kale slaw, and macaroni and cheese. The company was founded in 2017 in East Hollywood when “four friends scraped together $900 to purchase a fryer.” Last year, it was named “America’s Fastest Growing Restaurant Chain” by industry research firm Technomic after Dave’s Hot Chicken increased its systemwide sales by 156% over the previous year.

“Dave’s Hot Chicken has one of the greatest origin stories in the restaurant business, with the founders starting Dave’s as a parking lot pop-up restaurant in Hollywood with a portable fryer and picnic tables from their backyards,” CEO Bill Phelps said in a May 2023 news release. “The company’s nearly unheard-of growth rate is a result of the founders’ vision for this brand, the tremendous leadership team we’ve assembled, and the incredible commitment of some of the most experienced franchisees in the restaurant industry.”

Dave’s Hot Chicken owns more than 100 franchises across the U.S. and Canada and “has more than 700 locations in the development pipeline,” according to the company’s website.
