A 7-year-old North Texas boy is being recognized for his quick thinking and bravery after rescuing his 1-year-old brother from a backyard swimming pool and helping initiate a response that authorities say saved the child’s life.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office announced that Patrick, a Burleson-area child, has been nominated for a Sheriff’s Commendation Award following the June 21 incident on Ketron Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched to assist emergency medical personnel after a 1-year-old child, identified as Liam, was found unresponsive in a residential swimming pool.
When first responders arrived, they immediately began lifesaving measures. Emergency medical personnel stabilized the child before transporting him to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. Authorities said Liam is expected to make a full recovery.
During the investigation, deputies learned that Patrick discovered his younger brother in the pool and acted without hesitation. According to the sheriff’s office, Patrick pulled Liam from the water, alerted their mother, and then ran to a neighbor’s home to seek additional help.
Sheriff’s officials credited the young boy’s actions with playing a critical role in the chain of events that ultimately saved his brother’s life.
“In moments of crisis, even adults can freeze under pressure,” Lt. Keven George said in a statement. “Patrick did the opposite. He remained focused, acted with urgency, and demonstrated a level of courage, awareness, and determination far beyond his years.”
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has formally nominated Patrick for a Sheriff’s Commendation Award, a recognition reserved for individuals whose actions reflect exceptional courage and service. The nomination will be reviewed by the Sheriff’s Office Awards Committee during its next meeting.
If approved, Patrick will receive a Sheriff’s Commendation Award and a commemorative pin.
“Our entire Sheriff’s Office family is incredibly proud of Patrick,” George said. “His selflessness, courage, and love for his little brother serve as a powerful reminder that heroes come in all ages and sizes.”
The sheriff’s office encouraged community members to join in recognizing Patrick’s actions and wishing Liam continued recovery.
“Patrick, your actions made a difference when it mattered most,” the sheriff’s office said. “You stayed calm, acted quickly, and helped save a life.”
