Garland police are asking for help from the public to identify a man whose body was found in a creek on Sunday night, following heavy rains that hit North Texas over the weekend.

Emergency crews responded to calls around 9:45 p.m. on July 13 to the 2600 block of Anita Drive, where they found human remains beneath a bridge. Investigators believe the man’s body was swept downstream by fast-moving floodwaters that have recently hit the area.

In an updated Facebook post, Garland PD wrote, “Emergency personnel located partial human remains, believed to be those of an adult, entangled in debris within the water. Due to the condition of the remains and recent heavy rainfall, investigators believe the remains may have been carried downstream from a location north of the scene.”

The police department currently believes the victim is an adult male, but his identity and the explanation behind his death remain unknown. A distinctive tattoo on the man’s upper left thigh, described as depicting claws and possibly a wing, is one of the few clues detectives have given to the public. However, the tattoo is allegedly difficult to distinguish fully.

The recent storms have brought some intense rains to Garland and other parts of North Texas, leading to dangerous flooding in low-lying areas. Now, officials suspect that flooding may have played a role in the man’s death, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

As of press time, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office is working with Garland detectives to try to find further details on the case.

The Garland Police Department is now asking anyone with information about the man or who may recognize the tattoo to come forward. Anyone with potential information on the man can contact the Garland Police Department at 972-485-4840 or directly contact Detective Lingenfelter at 972-205-4021.
