Police are arresting a student after he sprayed others with a substance on a school bus in Arlington on Wednesday.
“Originally, the student had advised the concoction was water, mustard, and sand,” said Arlington Police Chief of Staff Courtney White to The Dallas Express. “After further investigation and testing the substance revealed to contain bleach as well.”
Police responded to 2100 S. Cooper St. in Arlington after a 14-year-old student on a school bus “had thrown a water bottle which contained an unknown substance at multiple students,” according to White.
The suspect will be arrested for aggravated assault.
“This morning, the Arlington Fire Department responded to a school bus en route to another campus from Arlington High School,” said Arlington Independent School District Chief Communications Officer Taina Northington to The Dallas Express. “They quickly determined that the substance was not hazardous.”
Four students went to the hospital for evaluation “out of an abundance of caution,” Northington said. According to White, several had eye irritation.
While CBS News reported the suspect was an “Arlington High School student,” Northington told The Dallas Express otherwise, as the school “serves as a transportation hub for students who are not registered at AHS.”
“No AHS students were involved in the incident, as it was isolated to the bus that picks up non-AHS students on our campus,” Northington explained. “The matter is being handled by the home campuses, where appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with district policy. Behavior that compromises student safety will not be tolerated.”
According to Northington, the rest of the students on the bus went back to their campus and “resumed their school day without interruption.”
“We are grateful to the Arlington Fire and Police Departments for their prompt response and support,” she said.
The Dallas Express contacted the Arlington Fire Department but did not hear back in time for publication.
