A blaze on Friday night in Fort Worth left over a dozen residents without a home.

Eleven adults and five children were displaced when a fire broke out at a Fort Worth apartment complex in the evening hours of July 21, destroying multiple units.

Fort Worth Fire Department said in a Facebook post that it had responded to multiple reports of a fire in the 2800 block of Las Vegas Trail just after 8 p.m. The apartment complex at this location is known as Mira Monte Apartments.

When crews arrived on the scene, personnel noted that “heavy fire” was emanating from the second story of the structure. The fire department posted several images of their efforts battling the flames.

A small black and white kitten was pulled from the debris, one photo showed.

“Crews pulled the hose lines to extinguish the fires and searched the apartments for anyone trapped inside. During their search, they located a tiny kitten that was unharmed,” said the FWFD in the post. “Firefighters reunited the kitten with [its] owner.”

This fire was extinguished in only 15 minutes.

No injuries occurred as a result of the fire; however, 16 people are now without homes.

American Red Cross Greater North Texas has taken up the task of providing for the immediate needs of these displaced individuals.

Multiple citizens have commented on this post, praising the efforts of the department and the Red Cross.

Mike Barber Sr., one of the volunteer supervisors for the Red Cross present at the scene after the fire, was among the commenters. He noted that the fire department was “top notch” in his book.

“Great work to all of them. Special shout out to FTW PD for keeping us safe,” said Barber in reply to the FWFD’s post.

Fort Worth Fire Department responds to over 110,000 incidents each year and covers an area of approximately 345 square miles, according to the City of Fort Worth.

The cause of this fire is currently unknown and is being investigated by the fire department.
