Meteorologists expect another freeze to set in across North Texas this weekend and chances of rain early next week.

Another cold front that arrived overnight has dropped temperatures into the mid-30s across the metroplex, with areas near the Red River reaching below-freezing.

Temperatures in the metroplex will dip below freezing overnight on Friday and Saturday, with daytime highs hovering just above freezing, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

“Expect [January 19] to be the coldest night with lows in the teens/20s and wind chills in the low teens to single digits. Sunday morning will not be much warmer, with morning lows in the low to upper 20s and wind chills in the teens and low 20s,” said the NWS on its website.

Chances of rain return to the forecast Sunday evening, and areas north of the metroplex could see freezing rain.

“There is a 20-30% chance of freezing rain in the Red River area late Sunday into Monday morning. If freezing rain occurs, some bridges and overpasses could briefly become slick,” the NWS said on its website. “Any freezing rain that develops late Sunday night will become all rain by Monday morning as temperatures quickly climb above freezing.”

Conditions are expected to transition to a “mild and rainy” weather pattern in the upcoming week.

“High temperatures will go from the 30s on Sunday to the 40s and 50s on Monday [and] to the 50s and 60s for the rest of the week. Most locations will see 1-2.5 [inches] of rain late Sunday through Thursday, but there is a 40-50% chance that locations across eastern Central Texas and the Brazos Valley pick up 3+,” the NWS said on its website.
