A massive 1.7 million square foot Amazon operations facility in North Texas is breaking ground this week.
Once operational, the new complex, located off Chisholm Trail Parkway at Industrial Drive in Cleburne, will welcome hundreds of jobs.
“This facility will allow us to better serve our customers… We’re grateful for our partnership with the City of Cleburne and look forward to sharing more details about this facility in the future,” said Jessica Breaux, senior manager of economic development for Amazon, in a news release.
The City of Cleburne expects a $200 million capital investment in the area as a result of the project. Once fully up and running, the facility could generate upwards of 1,000 new jobs.
“On behalf of the Cleburne City Council, I am thrilled to welcome Amazon to our community,” said Cleburne Mayor Scott Cain in the news release.
“Amazon’s strategic investment to establish a state-of-the-art facility here is a testament to Cleburne’s thriving economy, strategic location and growing potential. This investment will not only create new opportunities for our residents but also further solidify Cleburne as a key player in the region’s economic landscape,” continued Cain.
According to the city, the e-commerce giant has invested $70 billion in the Lone Star State since 2010. This includes both infrastructure investment and employee compensation. Statewide, Amazon employs 89,000 individuals and operates more than 80 operations facilities.
The Dallas Express reported in October that Amazon is looking to hire hundreds of thousands of seasonal employees across the U.S. this holiday season. The company is looking to fill 18,000 part-time and full-time seasonal positions in Texas, with 8,000 directly in Dallas-Fort Worth. Positions will earn a minimum of $18 per hour while receiving full benefits from day one.
Almost one in three Amazon seasonal workers return the following year, and the average worker earns a 15% pay increase over the first three years.
