A North Texas figure skating coach faces sexual assault charges after police say he engaged in inappropriate relationships with two athletes, including one who was a minor.
Benjamin Shroats, 47, was arrested Tuesday evening at his Allen residence following a three-day investigation.
Allen police launched their investigation on February 15 after receiving a report about Shroats’ alleged conduct. Authorities said one relationship reportedly began when the athlete was still a minor.
Shroats faces one count of indecency with a child sexual contact and one count of sexual assault. The sexual assault charge involves a second victim, according to police.
He remains in the Collin County Detention Center on bonds totaling $200,000. His arraignment has already taken place.
Police said their investigation continues. They have not indicated whether additional victims may come forward.
The Allen Police Department provided information for this report, but has not released further details about the victims or the circumstances of the alleged crimes.
