Newly released arrest warrant records provide additional details about a Northlake woman accused of stabbing her husband and two young children, including an account from her husband that her behavior had recently changed.
Holly Leeann Flores, 37, faces two counts of attempted capital murder of a person under 10 and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the October 6 incident at the family’s home on Daylily Drive.
The Dallas Express previously reported that Northlake police responded at about 4:20 a.m. after Flores’ 34-year-old husband called 911 and said his wife had a knife and had stabbed him. Officers detained Flores and found the couple’s 3-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son injured inside the home.
Affidavit Describes Injuries and Confrontation
The children were conscious when officers found them on a bed covered in blood, according to an arrest warrant affidavit reported by Fox 4 KDFW. Both children had deep puncture wounds to the upper chest, and the girl also had wounds to her stomach. Denton County medics began life-saving measures before taking the children to a hospital.
Flores’ husband told investigators that he had been sleeping in the living room because of recent changes in her behavior and because he wanted to remain closer to the children. He said he woke earlier in the night after hearing Flores use a lighter, entered the bedroom, and saw her lighting a candle. A kitchen knife was on the dresser, according to the affidavit.
The husband said he later awoke to the children crying. When he went to the bedroom, Flores allegedly opened the door while holding the knife and attacked him, the affidavit states. He told police she struck his forehead before he took the knife from her and called 911. Investigators also documented bite marks on his arms.
Husband Cites Postpartum Depression
Flores’ husband told police that she had been dealing with postpartum depression and that her behavior had recently changed. That statement is his account to investigators; the publicly available reporting does not establish an independent medical diagnosis or identify postpartum depression as the motive for the alleged attack.
While medics transported Flores to a hospital, she allegedly said “she wanted to kill herself and she no longer wanted to live,” according to the affidavit. When officers asked Flores whether she knew why police had been called to the home, she replied, “I would like to speak to my lawyer.”
Flores received treatment for a small cut to her upper chest before authorities booked her into the Denton County Jail. Her husband sustained a minor head injury. The two children suffered more serious injuries but are expected to recover, Fox 4 reported.
