Someone in Weatherford recently hit the $8 million jackpot after buying a winning ticket for Saturday’s Lotto Texas drawing from a local convenience store.

The yet-to-be-claimed ticket was sold at Tiger Mart 51 on 102 E. Interstate 20, approximately 30 miles west of Fort Worth, the Texas Lottery Commission announced on Tuesday. The Quick Pick matched all six numbers drawn on June 17: 2-5-13-16-23-38.

The odds of hitting the jackpot are estimated to be one in 25,827,165.

“We look forward to meeting and congratulating the winner of this Lotto Texas jackpot prize,” explained Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, in a news release publicized by KETK. “If you have the winning ticket, we encourage you to sign the ticket, put it in a safe place, seek financial and legal advice, and call the Texas Lottery to schedule an appointment to claim the prize.”

The fortunate ticketholder opted for the cash value option during the purchase, entitling them to a pre-tax windfall of $4,784,297.17. Prizes over $5,000 are subject to a 24% federal tax.

The clock is ticking for the lucky winner, as a 180-day deadline to step forward from the date of the draw has been set.

While the search for the jackpot winner continues, other lucky players celebrated smaller wins. In the same draw, as many as 58,117 Lotto Texas tickets claimed smaller prizes ranging from $2 to $11,431.

The momentum of Lotto Texas shows no signs of slowing, with the next drawing’s jackpot already standing at an estimated $5.25 million on Wednesday.

As The Dallas Express reported, a DFW resident won $1 million with a $20 scratch-off ticket purchased earlier this month in Frisco.

The anonymous winner joined several other lucky North Texans, including a man in Arlington who claimed the $7.5 million jackpot for Lotto Texas earlier this month.

Drawings for Lotto Texas are every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:12 p.m.
