A 42-year-old woman died after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing a roadway in Richardson on Saturday morning, according to police.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:05 a.m. on June 20 in the 1400 block of West Spring Valley Road, the Richardson Police Department said.

Officers responding to the scene found an adult female pedestrian who had been hit by a westbound pickup truck. Paramedics with the Richardson Fire Department transported the woman to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities identified the victim as Elvira Peralta Hernandez, 42.

According to preliminary information from investigators, Hernandez was crossing West Spring Valley Road at a location other than a designated crosswalk when she was struck by the pickup truck. The City of Richardson recently installed Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons and Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacons at crosswalks along this area of Spring Valley Road to prevent such incidents.

The driver remained at the scene and was not injured, police said.

The Richardson Police Department’s Special Crash Investigation Team is handling the investigation.

No additional details have been released as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
