Following a historic scoring stretch over the course of seven days, the Mavericks’ Luka Doncic was named the Western Conference Player of the Week. The Eastern Conference award went to Chicago Bulls guard DeMar DeRozan.

The honor marks the fifth time that Doncic has been named player of the week in his four seasons in the NBA so far, but it is the first time he has won the award this season. Only Dirk Nowitzki has won the weekly award more times than Doncic in the Mavericks franchise history. Nowitizki won 16 player-of-the-week awards throughout his 22-season career.

In games from February 7-13, Doncic was beyond dominant, averaging 43 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. Doncic made 53.2% of his total shot attempts, including 50% of his three-point attempts during the week. He achieved high shooting percentages on an average of 25.7 shot attempts, including 12 three-point attempts per game. The combination of effective scoring with a high volume of shot attempts is exceptional for an NBA player.

Doncic led Dallas to a 2-1 record during the week, with his best performances in back-to-back games versus the Los Angeles Clippers. In their first meeting on Thursday, February 10, Doncic scored a career-high 51 points, including 28 in the first quarter alone of a game that ended in a 112-105 victory.

In their subsequent matchup two days later, Doncic scored 45 points, including 23 points just in the fourth quarter. He scored the Mavericks’ final 19 points of the game, single-handedly keeping their hopes alive. Still, the team ultimately fell short 99-97.

Doncic scored 129 total points last week, the most in franchise history over a span of three games, according to Mavericks PR.

Doncic may not be done accumulating accolades this month. He is on pace to win the Western Conference’s Player of the Month award if he keeps up his torrid pace for the remainder of February.

So far, through six games this month, Doncic is averaging 36.7 points, 10 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game. If he wins the monthly honor, it would be the third time he has done so in his young career. Doncic previously was awarded the Western Conference Player of the Month award for October and November during the 2019-20 season.
