For the next 90 days, all outdoor burning in Tarrant County is forbidden, according to officials.
The Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved the ban requested by the Tarrant County Fire Marshal to protect the lives and properties of their citizens because of harsh drought conditions in unincorporated regions of the county.
In light of the ongoing drought, Tarrant County Fire Marshal Randy Renois advises people to attend public fireworks displays that will be performed around the county over the Fourth of July weekend rather than using fireworks for personal use.
“We encourage all Tarrant County residents to take these precautions and be safe over the holiday weekend,” said Renois.
To stop a fire from spreading to homes and outbuildings, Renois advises rural homeowners to maintain a mowed area of about 30 feet around structures.
Residents should also clear any unnecessary vegetation and flammable material around their homes. Additionally, the fire marshal suggests that people have water hoses nearby in case a small fire breaks out.
Violating the outdoor burn ban is a Class C Misdemeanor and carries a fine of up to $500.
