The White Rock Lake Foundation plans to renovate Winfrey Point, located on the north side of the lake. The foundation is working with the City of Dallas to raise $400,000.

Upon Dallas Park and Recreation’s approval of the renovation, the White Rock Lake Task Force met with board members to discuss improvements, including the 2,500-square-foot office space that needs interior and exterior paint, roofing, and flooring. There also will be the addition of eleven directional signs throughout the park.

The foundation is installing directional signs around the lake to make navigating its trails easier. These signs will show park users how far they are from points on the path, what landmarks they can see, and provide a map. The foundation has already raised over $25,000 to fund these additions to the park.

“We’re not trying to clutter up the park,” Ted Ellis, a longtime member of the White Rock Lake Foundation, said at the March meeting of the White Rock Lake Task Force. “We’re just trying to make it a little bit safer and a little bit more usable.”

In 2015, the Board of Directors decided to help restore the picnic area, including the Stone Tables Pavilion. The goal is to have the stone tables themselves restored and improve the surrounding grounds to make them more sustainable.

The Dallas Express spoke with 15-year board member Susan Falvo, who said the renovation of  White Rock’s Winfrey Point is estimated to take two to five years to complete.

Established in 1989, the White Rock Lake Foundation was created with a mission to sustain and improve the environmental health of White Rock Lake. The foundation’s goal is to create a more beautiful, sustainable space for people to enjoy.
