The new Joya playground at Oran Good Park in Farmers Branch is scheduled to make its debut early next year.
The “glow-in-the-dark” playground has been under construction for several months.
Farmers Branch officials started construction on this “one-of-a-kind” park earlier this year, holding a groundbreaking event in June. City officials said that the 18,000-square-foot park would be the “crown jewel of playgrounds in Farmers Branch,” as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
“The vision for Joya was brought about through surveying the community and talking to a lot of kids, the true fun experts. With the goal of bringing a signature play space to Farmers Branch, the City’s Parks & Recreation staff, along with City leadership, developed this one-of-a-kind concept. Working with playground and engineering professionals, Kompan and TNP, Joya has become the first outdoor glow-in-the-dark playground in the United States,” reads the website for Joya.
The playground will feature several unique amenities including zip lines with interactive lights, an LED-lit “spin zone,” glowing seating, a 27-foot “lit sphere” with six levels, and much more.
The playground equipment and lighting component testing was conducted earlier this year in October and the city announced that the park was “nearing completion” on December 20, according to the latest updates from the City of Farmers Branch.
The park is scheduled to have its grand opening on January 20. It will open at 6 p.m. and the lighting of the playground will take place at 6:30 p.m.
Attendance is free with visitors having access to food trucks, free items, and more. The event will last until 9 p.m., however, the park will remain open until 10 p.m. Parking for the event is free.
Residents are advised that smoking, vaping, skateboards, rollerblades, skates, contraband, frisbees, laser pointers, as well as pets and service animals are prohibited at the park.
Joya is located at Oran Good Park, 13201 Tom Field Rd.
