Rob Van Winkle – better known as Vanilla Ice – will be bringing his nationwide tour to Dallas on Friday, April 15, at the Statler Hotel — though the 90’s rapper has not confirmed if he will be driving his “5.0 with the rag-top down so” his “hair can blow.”

Van Winkle is a Grammy-nominated American rapper, actor, and television host.
The concert will be the headlining act of a larger event called 90’s Night, where Statler’s iconic ballroom, surrounding properties, and all its associated restaurants and bars will be transformed into a nostalgia-fueled celebration of the decade.
The opening act for Vanilla Ice on Friday will be Grammy-award winner Young MC, whose hit song Bust A Move won the 1990 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance and spent 39 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100. It peaked at No.7 in America and reached No.1 in his home country of Australia.
Vanilla Ice first rose to fame in 1990 when he released the album, To The Extreme, which contained a cover of the song Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry, as well as his most famous work to date, Ice Ice Baby, the first hip-hop song ever to rank on the Billboard charts.
Van Winkle’s debut album spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart and sold 15 million copies worldwide. At the time, it was the most successful hip-hop album ever released.
After the decline of his musical career in the late 90s, Van Winkle became interested in-home renovations projects and buying houses to later resell for profit, known in the industry as “flipping.” He has hosted a reality competition program on the DIY Network for over ten seasons called The Vanilla Ice Project, which also offered workshops for contestants to learn more about the real estate business.
Audacity reports his newest project is similar to that DIY series and is called The Vanilla Ice Home Show. Potential home renovators in the show are given a pair of virtual reality goggles, which allows them to see what their home would look like after being remodeled.
Van Winkle’s return to Texas marks a homecoming for the rapper-turned-actor, who was born in Dallas and lived in the area until the age of four when his family moved to South Florida. However, he did return to Texas when his family moved to Carrollton in his later teenage years after his stepfather received a better job offer.
“Dallas is always home; I was born in Baylor Hospital, and that’s home,” he told the Dallas Observer upon his return home. “You know, I got a big ol’ Texas tattoo on my leg,”
Tickets to the concert are available on the Statler Hotel’s website and range from a $49 general admission ticket to a $1,500 VIP Lounge experience for eight people, including two bottles of spirits and one bottle of wine or champagne.
