As reported by Fox 4 News, a set of twins arrived into the world fifteen minutes apart this New Year’s, causing them to share different birthdays.

Fatima Madrigal, their mother, delivered Aylin Yolanda and Alfredo Antonio Trujillo at the Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, California.

At 11:45 p.m. on December 31, Alfredo Trujillo was delivered, and his sister, Aylin, was born right at midnight on January 1. She was also the first baby delivered in 2022 at that hospital and in Monterey County.

The family physician who delivered the twins, Dr. Ana Abril Arias, described their births as “an amazing way to start the New Year.”

The pair will now have birthdays on separate days, months, and years.

Madrigal said in a statement, “It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays. I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”

An announcement of their births reported the baby boy weighed 6 pounds 1 ounce at birth, while his sister weighed 5 pounds 14 ounces.

Their mother also has three other children, a boy and two girls. She said her family is excited to meet the duo.

According to research from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 120,000 twin births occur yearly in the United States, but twins born on different dates are infrequent.

Data from the website Freakonomics suggests that the chances of twins arriving in two different years are one out of two million.

Dr. Arias also said, “This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career. It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022.”

In 2020, a mom in Indiana gave birth to a set of twins delivered in two different decades. Joslyn and Jaxon Gilliam were born 30 minutes apart. Joslyn was born at 11:37 p.m. on New Year’s Eve 2019, and Jaxon made his appearance at 12:07 a.m. on New Year’s Day 2020.
