Locals and visitors looking for something to do in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this weekend have various options, including live music and art events.

Visit Dallas, a local nonprofit dedicated to promoting Dallas as a tourism destination, has released its Weekend Picks list, showcasing events for people to enjoy this weekend and next. Events include local artist Antonio Lechuga’s “Structures of Softness” exhibit and a taco and margarita tour.

Art lovers can visit the Oak Cliff Cultural Center to see Lechuga’s exhibit, “an immersive installation responding to the divisiveness of border walls,” per the Visit Dallas website.

“Tall fence-like structures wrapped in cobijas/blankets transform the gallery, embodying comfort in opposition to the cold, hard structure that exists along the United States/Mexico border. The cobijas, warm and inviting, are lovingly wrapped around the fence, hugging it to encourage a sense of care and security,” the Visit Dallas website explains. “Lechuga’s careful deconstruction of the cobijas and his consideration in the craft, composition, and reconstruction of them to hug the fence facilitates the comforting experience.”

This exhibit is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Dallas Bites & Sights Tours will be putting on the Dallas’ Best Tacos and Margaritas Tour this weekend on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patrons will tour the city, play trivia games, and learn about local landmarks aboard a comfortable motor coach, which will stop at some of the city’s finest taco eateries. Tickets include four tacos and two margaritas, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.

Folk music legend Judy Collins will perform with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra for one night only at the Eisemann Center on Saturday as part of her Wildflower Tour. Tickets for this event start at $67, according to the venue’s website.

For those fascinated by the role of the conductor in bringing a musical score to life, the Hart Institute for Women’s Conductors Showcase Concert on Sunday may be the ticket. The concert will showcase some of “the world’s most brilliant conductors” as they lead the Dallas Opera Orchestra in several operatic pieces, accompanied by vocal performances from the cast of Elektra.

The conductors and orchestra will be projected onto a large screen on stage, providing a unique view of the performers and conducting style,” the Dallas Opera website notes. Tickets for this event start at $15.

The Fort Worth Opera is presenting The Tragedy of Carmen, an English language adaptation of Georges Bizet’s classic opera Carmen. There will be two performances this weekend at the I.M. Terrell Academy, with the first show on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and the second on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., according to the event website.

Amphibian Stage’s presentation of Titanic: The Musical will take place on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. Tickets for this musical hosted at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth start at $12, according to the venue’s website.

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Pat Green will take the stage this Saturday at Billy Bob’s Texas from 10 p.m. to midnight. Tickets start at $20.

This is also the final weekend to view the “Bonnard’s Worlds exhibit at the Kimbell Art Museum, which runs through Sunday. The exhibition, which debuted in November of last year, was inspired after the museum acquired Pierre Bonnard’s painting Landscape at Le Cannet in 2018, according to the museum’s website. The exhibit brings together 70 of the French painter’s works from both public and private collections.

It is the first exhibition dedicated to the artist’s works in the state of Texas in nearly four decades.

The city of Fort Worth will also host several events this weekend.
