The North Texas Fair and Rodeo in Denton, Texas, on Saturday, November 5, held their annual BBQ cookoff, which has been recognized as a championship BBQ caliber cookoff.

The cookoff is held separately from the fair and rodeo every year and features local and statewide pitmasters.

Located inside the North Texas Fairgrounds, the event showcased smoked meats like ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and so much more.

“We had a great turnout,” said Hannah Crandall, marketing manager for the North Texas Fair and Rodeo, speaking to The Dallas Express. “We had some really good BBQ, brisket, ribs, chicken, beans. I got to be a judge in the brisket contest, and we had lots of judges out. They had a good time, and it was a good time out here.”

Friday was marred by bad weather, with North Texas experiencing severe thunderstorms and parts of North Texas under a tornado watch, as reported by The Dallas Express. Saturday’s weather, however, proved a welcoming environment for families, friends, and people who love to eat and enjoy some good Texas BBQ.

With the sun shining down on the North Texas Fairgrounds, much of the community took the opportunity to come out.

“There were lots of families out here all sitting outside, all of the teams that were out cooking had families here all sitting and cooking outside, all of our volunteers who were judging and just hanging out, so the weather definitely contributed, it was a great time,” Crandall told The Dallas Express.

According to its website, the North Texas State Fair Association is a volunteer-supported, 501 (c) (3) non-profit community organization that preserves and promotes western heritage and values.

“We do all we can to raise money to support our cause all year long,” Jim Paddack, a member of the North Texas Fair and Rodeo Board of Directors, told The Dallas Express.

The fair and rodeo seek to significantly contribute to the quality of life in Denton city and county.
