Legendary Chicago ice cream shop, The Original Rainbow Cone, has finally arrived in North Texas.
Residents of Dallas-Fort Worth can now treat themselves to the famous ice cream that dates back nearly 100 years to 1926. The new shop, located at 460 Grapeview Hwy, is already racking up rave reviews, with 64 people giving it an average five-star rating on Google.
“Thought it was going to be just a typical ice cream but actually was suprised at how good it was may be best ice cream ive had,” wrote one customer.
The newest addition to North Texas is not hard to spot. The building looks like it was dipped in pink icing and covered with white polka dots. Steve Labus, a former Chicago resident, longtime Rainbow Cone fan, and now, chain franchisee here in DFW, says he used to enjoy the treat with his dad when he was younger.
After hearing that Rainbow Cone would be franchised outside its home city of Chicago, Labus secured the rights to the locations in Tarrant County. He hopes to add at least two additional franchises in the area.
The shop is famous for its Original Rainbow Cone. It has five layers of sliced, not scooped, ice cream flavors. It starts with chocolate at the bottom, then strawberry, Palmer House (an original recipe of vanilla, cherries, and walnuts), pistachio almond, and finally, orange sherbert.
The delicious treat can be had for $6.79, with the option to upgrade to a waffle cone for an additional 99 cents.
“[T]his new ice cream shop is AMAZING! Their Rainbow Cone (take my word for it – upgrade to a waffle cone!) includes slices of orange, chocolate, pistachio, vanilla/cherry/nut, and strawberry. Sounds weird but the combination is wonderful!” wrote another reviewer.
It appears North Texas is attracting popular ice cream chains at the moment. As reported in The Dallas Express earlier this week, an ice cream chain from India, Dumont Creamery & Café, recently opened their second location in the city DFW in Coppell.
