The Hong Kong Market marked its 36th anniversary with the Hong Kong Market Place Festival, sponsored by Asia Times Square.

“So here at Asian Times Square, we host about four big events a year. Our mission is to preserve tradition and promoting culture,” said William Nguyen, Operations Manager for Asia Times Square, speaking with The Dallas Express.

“This event is Hong Kong marketplace’s 36th birthday, and they’re partnering up with us. There’s going to be food vendors all along here from all different cultures,” Nguyen explained.

The festival ran from Friday, October 28, through Sunday, October 30.

On Friday, the event hosted a cosplay competition where people dressed as their favorite anime characters, partnering with Dallas Anime Meetup.

Saturday’s festivities, partnered with the Secret Society Club, began with “Enter the Culture HK Ciphers,” a cultural event showcasing Urban hip-hop dance styles that started at 5 p.m. and ended at midnight. The Hong Market prize award consisted of $1,000 and custom champion trophies.

On the last day of the event, the Autumn Dance Fest partnered with UTA FSA and featured dance teams consisting of duo and solo teams with all styles of dance, including covers, and cultural dances, to participate in the all-styles showcase.

The dance teams showcased many different styles and choreography for the community.

“Seeing all these cultures interact with each other … we’re trying to bridge the community there, they come, and they try something new, and that’s exciting,” expressed Nguyen. “Seeing someone be able to try something new here at Asia Times Square, that’s our goal,” he continued.

The Hong Kong Market serves the Grand Prairie and Arlington communities with specialty items from Hong Kong, China, and Vietnam.

The market serves as two of the largest Asian grocery stores in the Dallas Fort-Worth metropolitan area, providing a wide selection of Asian groceries and goods from Japan, Korea, Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, and other far east countries.

The Hong Kong Market Place Festival is an event hosted annually as a token of appreciation to the community, tenants, vendors, and guests for their continuous support over the past three decades.
