Dallasites who are fans of the great outdoors do not have to travel far to experience some of the state’s top-rated camping spots. According to a new list of the Best Campgrounds in America by Campspot, two of the Lone Star State’s best are located right here in North Texas.

Dallas Northeast Campground

Believe it or not, residents of Dallas can access world-class camping just 40 miles from the city or less than an hour’s drive. According to its website, the campground is located in Caddo Mills, “near I-30, yet far from the hubbub of the big city.”

One user on Facebook described Dallas Northeast Campground as “absolutely breathtaking.”

“The sites are wonderful, great hookups. Easy to get in and out on a big RV … They have a place for your dog to run off leash and a pond that my pup loves to run/walk around with me. Would highly recommend visiting here,” wrote Alexandra Nielson Jaecke on the campground’s Facebook page.

In addition to a tent village, the campground has 87 full-hookup RV sites and 10 rustic cabins. Visitors can also access many of the nearby attractions, like the Harbor Rockwall dining and retail complex, Stone River Golf Club, Lake Ray Hubbard Marinas, or the Shangri Llama, a sanctuary for llamas living amid a replica of an Irish castle.

The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

North Texas has not one but two of the top spots in the state. Located on the shores of Grapevine Lake, The Vineyards Campgrounds & Cabins offers guests access to pristine waters for fishing and kayaking, as well as private nature trails for hiking and walking.

“This is an amazing campground! The people are friendly, the rates are great, and the location to Main Street [shopping] and food is great too. It has to be hands down the cleanest campground we have ever visited. Highly recommend!!!,” exclaimed one reviewer on Google.

Ranked number five in the “Top Mid-Size Campgrounds” category, The Vineyards is even closer to the City than Dallas NE Campground, just 24 miles from Dallas. The Vineyards also offers discounts for current or retired U.S. Military, Grapevine residents, and other groups.
