The popular television show Yellowstone returned to film in North Texas, and numerous fans showed up during filming with hopes of glimpsing cast members. Filming was done in the city of Venus, WFAA reported, which is south of the Dallas Fort Worth region.

Details of the scene revealed it involved a crowd of extras and a speech. It is part of the new season of the show, season five, which recently premiered.

Venus was turned into a small Montana town for filming, and around 200 extras were present. Storefronts were changed to reflect a Montana location, WFAA reported.

James Burgess, the mayor of Venus, told WFAA that being part of a television set brings attention to the community and gets people excited. “It brings so much excitement and recognition. A lot of people have heard of Venus, but they hadn’t seen the historic downtown and it brings a lot of attention to the town,” Burgess said.

Venus was chosen because it could pass for a setting that would be seen in Yellowstone, according to Burgess. “The buildings really add to the square and are historic. Everyone is really excited; Yellowstone is very popular right now. I’m a huge fan.”

Multiple fans who showed up to watch the filming from afar spoke with WFAA, sharing excitement about the presence of stars and film crews. Lynnette Scheltz said, “I’m going to say he’s way taller than I realized but he is just as handsome as he ever had been,” about catching a glimpse of Costner.

Costner’s character is the recently elected governor in the show’s fifth season.

Another fan, Briana Evans, shared that more people than usual could be seen in Venus while the Yellowstone crew was in town. “This is probably the most people we’ve seen here at one time,” Evans told WFAA.

Jeff Tucker shared that he enjoys the television western because of the way it transports the audience to the past.  “Pretty neat to have them here this close,” Tucker said.

Over 12 million fans watched the premiere of the fifth season of Yellowstone, WFAA reported.

Texas has been used as a filming location for the television show in the past. In West Texas, the Four Sixes Ranch was used as a major location for the fourth season, WFAA reported in January. The creators of the show have also announced a possible spin-off that would heavily feature this ranch.

Venus has also been a film location before the recent arrival of Yellowstone, according to Burgess. Some of the other filming projects seen in the city over the years include Born on the 4th of July, Walker Texas Ranger, and Trip to Bountiful.

Venus is around 45 minutes from Dallas, and home to less than 5,000 people.

How cool is that? Excitement was high I’m sure. I love the show and I’ve always been fond of Kevin Costner! Hope they film around this area some more, perhaps the studio’s in Las Colinas!
