Whether you’re craving just a slice or a whole pie, the seventh annual Texas Pie Fest at Tate Farms has something for everyone.

The delicious — and sometimes messy — festival returns to one of Rockwall County’s remaining working farms on April 26. Guests can enjoy live music and shopping while enjoying a slice of their favorite pie at the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tate Farms at 12992 S FM 548 in Rockwall.

“The 7th Annual Texas Pie Fest is a jubilant celebration of pie and all things related. Join us for a delightful gathering featuring pie vendors from all over Texas, offering their sweet treats, along with artisan vendors, food trucks, a pie-baking contest, a pie-eating contest, a pie fight, and a myriad of other engaging activities. It’s a festival filled with pie-themed fun and more!” reads a description on the festival’s website.

In addition to live performances by a local children’s Mexican folk dance group, Folklorico Dobbs, and the NORTEX Square Dancers, guests can expect food trucks like Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs in case you want a corndog in between desserts.

However, the main attraction is, of course, pie, with three main events taking place:

  • Pie-Baking Contest: For a $10 entry fee, bakers can enter the festival’s pie-baking contest. Bakers must pre-register and can submit either sweet or savory varieties.
  • Pie-Eating Contest: Take your love of pie to a whole new level for a $5 entry fee for the festival’s pie-eating contest. To join, contestants must be in good health and not have any food allergies or other related concerns. Warning: this contest could get messy, as no utensils are permitted.
  • Pie Fight: This event is exactly what you expect. Fortunately, some basic rules will help keep the showdown relatively civil: only whipped cream pies can be used, and no headshots are allowed.

“Pie is said to be a great equalizer, crossing boundaries and cultures, igniting conversations, and creating comfort for all,” said festival founder Melissa Tate, per KDAF.

“Our goal is to bring people out to the farm, right outside of the city, and spend the day enjoying food, fellowship, and fresh air.”

The festival will also feature over 50 vendors offering vintage and handmade items. Tickets to the Texas Pie Fest are $10 per person in advance, and children seven and under are free. Tickets purchased at the gate on the day of the festival are $15 each.
